Campuses

Campuses are not part of French culture. Cité universitaires – or “University Cities” – are too small, too underfinanced and, in the end, too ghetto-like. In fact, this situation reveals a wider urban reality in which the horizontal is replaced by the vertical. In both cases, education and sporting activities resonate fully with one another, finding freedom in a natural refuge. These “botanic campuses” are designed as places of transition and of necessary withdrawal, with a calm, emancipatory interior, and a “more natural” exterior.
